Clean Agent Fire Extinguishers
According to NFPA 2001, a “clean agent” is an electrically nonconductive, volatile, or gaseous fire extinguishing agent that does not leave a residue upon evaporation. Since the ban on Halon in 1994 due to its ozone-depleting properties, the three most common clean agents used in fire suppression systems are 3M™ Novec™ 1230 Fire Protection Fluid, Chemours™ FM-200™ Fire Suppressant, and inert gases.
Benefits and Applications of Clean Agent Fire Extinguishers:
-
Effective on Class B and Class C Fires: Ideal for fires involving petrol, oil, propane, butane, and other flammable liquids and gases.
-
Residue-Free Fire Suppression: These extinguishers release gas that reduces oxygen levels to suppress flames without leaving any residue, preventing damage to sensitive equipment.
-
Environmentally Friendly: Modern clean agents like Novec™ 1230 and FM-200™ are designed to be safe for the environment and human health.
Clean agent fire extinguishers are an essential component of any advanced fire protection system, providing efficient and effective fire suppression while safeguarding valuable assets and equipment.
